HOW TO BUILD A BAJA VIP LATRINE
ABOVE GROUND - THE OUTHOUSE

After you have waited a week for the cap to cure and have placed it on the hole, you are ready to build the outhouse.

A good seal between the cap and blocks is important.  It will prevent odors from escaping and rain from filling the pit.  In addition, since there in no rebar tying the blocks to the cap, you need to make a strong connection.  Tying them together would prevent the cap from being moved to a new hole when the existing one fills or becomes damaged for some reason.

Pictured below is the fiberglass "taza" toilet.  I recommend that you use good quality plastic toilet seats.  They wear very well and clean easily.   I use "pourstone" to seal the toilet to the cap.  Latex or silicone sealers work as well.

A completed outhouse. The vent pipe is exposed to full sun and is not painted.  The black pipe absorbs heat, the air in the pipe heats and rises.  This allows for good ventilation inside the pit.  The screen also provides for the prevailing breezes to vent the outhouse.

This part of the plans are subject to your interpretation.  You can build the outhouse out of locally available materials or download the plans from this site.
