On October 27-29 2000 we built two houses and two
latrines for these families!
Two new homes complete with new latrines were constructed by a group
mostly from Sierra Madre Congregational Church. Funding for one house
and latrine was provided by a single private donor. (God bless you E. & C.)
The remainder was raised with fundraising activities and donations from
members at SMCC.
Total Construction time was 13 hours over two days!
New House Number One

Alfredo 5
They were living in one dirt floor room, constructed from old garage doors and blue plastic tarps. They have no running water, no electricity or restroom.
Jose works in a factory and makes $50 a week.
Now in their new 16x20 2 bedroom home complete with a new latrine, they will
have a little more comfortable life and safety for the entire family.
Here Jose is digging the hole for the new latrine and latter,
helping with the drywall.

Second New House

Maria de la Luz Martinez (48) & Jose Juan Ayala (49)
Elizabet 25, & her two kids Maria 3 & Jesenia 4
Jose 22
Moises 19
David 16 - He was a hard worker and help a lot!
Judith 14
Abigail 10
Yes, that's 10 people!
They currently live in one dirt floor room, constructed from old garage doors. They have no running water, sporadic electricity and a terrible restroom.
Jose works as a brick layer and makes $60 a week.
Maria cleans houses for $50 a week.
Before
Here David, 16, helps with the latrine block
work. On the right is their current toilet. It is sitting directly
on the dirt, over a hole with a plastic pipe that leads
to a ditch next to the house.

After:
Carlos, Marcos & Micah - We call them "The Texas Boys" built the latrines and
the homes. They joined our team to see how we California folks do missionary work in Mexico.
Their ministry, Only a Servant Ministries does the same kind of work in border towns
South of San Antonio Texas like Nava, Allende, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa.
This clean, sanitary latrine will serve them for approximately 5-7 years!
